Born in 1972 in New York, I moved to Mexico City when I was only 3 years old. I grew up between Mexico City, Puebla, and Morelos before spending a short time back in New York after university. I am now living in Sydney, Australia. As the son of a prominent Mexican sculptor, my family life was always surrounded by the arts, which is no doubt how I developed my passion for photography. My first experience with a camera was using up all of my father’s Polaroid film when I was around 8 years old in what I can remember were just playful and dumb images. But I used to think it was amazing that a photograph would emerge almost instantly from a piece of paper.

My first camera, as in one that I owned and used regularly, was a 35mm film based Nikon my father gave me when I went to university. A short while later he also gave me his old enlarger, which I set up in a makeshift darkroom in a little room in my house. I spent hours locked in there developing 35mm black and white film. At university, I studied graphic design and took as many photography courses as the university offered.

Today, photography is the medium I choose to express myself. I have a passion for storytelling in whichever art form, but photography is the one I am most passionate about.
