Panasonic LX3 firmware update

Many photographers use the Panasonic LX3 (DMC-LX3) as their point and shoot. It's a very nice camera that has many features that both professional and amateur photographers consider key for a take-everywhere camera when they don't want to be lugging around a big dSLR. I'm one of them.

Key features I like are: the lens - 24mm @ f/2.0; common modes - aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual; good high ISO performance - 800 is amazing, and even 3200 looks cool in black & white; "only" 10 megapixels - I definitely don't need more on a point & shoot. What I don't like are that it doesn't have a viewfinder. And I'm still on the fence on it's RAW files. They're not supported by Aperture and as far as I know Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can't read them either.

Anyway, since I am an LX3 user and I know many others are, I decided to let you know that Panasonic released another firmware update recently. They're now up to version 1.3 and you can download the update and get instructions on how to install it in your camera from the Panasonic site here. According to the site, the updates include:

  1. Improved auto white balance performance.
  2. Improved auto white balance performance in sunset mode.
  3. Improved recovery operation from unremoved lens cap.
  4. Improved operation of MF ASSIST/AF area selection.
  5. Improved display of Manual Exposure Assistance.

I’ve installed it already and it was quick and easy. Can’t see much difference in the operation of the camera myself, but it’s always good to keep them up to date.
