Apple Aperture Workflow: Export photographs to Facebook
One of the things I love about using a digital asset management software like Apple's Aperture is that I can export my photographs to various places quickly and easily without having to actually create a new file in my computer. I can upload images directly to Flickr, MobileMe, Facebook, and others, and Aperture creates a temporary file, uploads, and deletes it. That way the photos are where I want them and my drive isn't filled with a bunch of versions of different sizes in different formats.
This is great, because as part of my workflow I tend to upload my personal photographs to my Facebook account. Fortunately, there's a free plugin that lets me do this quite effectively called Facebook Exporter for Aperture, that you can download directly from the Apple site. Once you've installed the plugin (it comes with an installer that does it for you), all you need to do is select the photographs you want to export and go to File>Export>FacebookExport and the following window will appear:

From here, you can select an existing album already in your Facebook profile or create a new one. You can also add captions, tag friends, and define the size you want the photograph to be. The cool thing is that once the photographs are in your Facebook account, those versions won't exist in your computer. That way you store only the original and keep things organized.
The authors website hasn't been updated in a while, but the plugin works perfectly with Aperture 2. You can get it from the Apple site at:

I've been using this plugin for a while now and it works great! Only thing I haven't figured out / or wish it did is give an option to upload to the fan page I administer. So far, I've only been able to upload to my personal page. Am I missing something?
Good question. I played with it and couldn't find a way to upload to fan pages either, although I haven't played with the admin of fan pages, so I may be missing something. Unfortunately development on the plugin seems to have stopped, so I doubt this feature will be added. If I find a solution I'll post it.
This is very helpful.. thank you guys for covering this up in here.. :)
Just downloaded the facebook exporter plugin for Aperture. For some reason, it's only exporting the first image from the selected group and then gets stuck without making progress. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks!
@Roee: I had the same thing happen just after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, but after I did all the system updates it started working again. Are you using Snow Leopard or is it happening with Leopard?
